Boy, did I hate my job. I was so thrilled when my husband told me that I could quit and be a housewife full time. That was my dream job; not sitting in some cubicle somewhere. Ever since I was a little girl all I could think about, dream about, was being a wife and mother. Now it had come to pass. I packed up my office and shook the dust off my feet as I went through the door for the last time. Freedom! Sweet, sweet freedom! How beautiful was the sound of the alarm clock on that following Monday morning. No congested commutes for me anymore. No gossiping and backbiting to start my day. I could read my Bible instead. Wow!

Vacuuming, dusting, grocery shopping, laundry, weeding, cleaning...where did I find the time to do this on the weekends? Now I could go through coat closets, dresser drawers and clean out the cupboards below the kitchen sink. The phone rings. Would I be able to watch Bobby on Friday for a couple of hours while Susie goes to the dentist? Absolutely! I scrub floors and countertops until they shine. I pour through cookbooks and begin to master baking delectable goodies. Yummy!

I study and do research constantly to enlarge my understanding and expertise of the art of housewifery. Finances, lawncare, recycling, ironing, removing stains, shopping for bargains; the list is endless.
“Aren't you bored?”, well meaning people ask me. “Do you find yourself watching lots of television?”, ask others. A thousand times the answer is NO! How could I be bored doing what I was created to do?
Someone told my husband that they didn't believe that I really enjoy making his lunch everyday. What? He told them that I get immense satisfaction from cleaning the bathrooms too, but they didn't believe that either. Sigh.

They don't understand that, for me, being a housewife isn't work; it's fun. Fun, fun, fun, FUN! It's a challenge and an adventure every single day. I have deadlines, budgets, working lunches, schedules and meetings just like everyone else.

I truly believe that God has a purpose and a calling on every man, woman, boy and girl. I am fulfilling what God has called me to do. Are you?

A really positive story about SAHM's. I think all of us who have had, or still stay at home have been asked the same question, and if we really love our work, the answer is definitely a resounding 'No'.

Well written.

Thanks for sharing 9 to 5. I'm glad you've found your purpose in life. Your story is a reminder for those of us that haven't.

Congrats on placing! And thanks for the enouraging words of being a SAHM. For years I worked outside of the house but for the past 7 months I've been blessed to be at home, where I longed to be.

Amen, from a stay at home mom!
I have a 2 year old daughter though and that makes it more challenging. But I would not trade it for the world. Your article is very well written and I feel I have been given a glimpse of your personality. Thanks.
