Life is likkke a box of chocolates;
You never know whatcha gonna get.
Old Forrest Gump had a point there,
Even though he was a little “dim wit.”
Today my life, to my hopeless despair,
Was chaotic, noisy and not much fun.
The temperature was ninety-nine degrees…..
And the air conditioner wouldn’t run!
The toilet backed up on the bathroom floor
And what a stinky, horrible mess!
Just about the time I cleaned it all up
I was starting to feel a little stress.
My grandchildren came to spend the day.
I’ve been blessed with six of them!
Their Mama’s dropped them off and left;
Because they wanted to go for a swim.
As each one tried to drown the others,
More crying you’ve never, ever heard!
I finally gathered them all inside with:
“I don’t want to hear another word!”
We decided to take a trip to the park,
To escape the heavy heat of the house.
We all dried off and changed our clothes,
Then I got a phone call from my spouse.
“Hello Babe, how y’all doing today?
You and the kids havin’ a good time?”
“Oh just lovely, hon” I grimly replied
Then sarcastically said “Just sublime!”
He didn’t catch the edge to my voice,
And said he’d be working late tonight,
Don’t wait up, leave dinner on the stove,
And don’t forget, turn on the porch light.
With kids in the car and all buckled up,
I realized I‘d left the car keys inside.
Starting back to the house to retrieve them,
The door was locked…..that’s when I cried.
“Oh dear Lord, what am I gonna do now?
It’s been such a dreadfully hot day!
Nothing’s gone right, my nerves are frazzled.”
Then I heard His Spirit say: “Pray”
While down on my knees on the front porch,
In my noggin, a light bulb popped on.
A window was open because of the heat,
I’d stick a kid through, then we’d be gone!
When we finally arrived, the park was quiet.
The ducks were swimming in the pond.
A peaceful breeze whispered: “Be thankful….
For your life, and life eternal beyond.”
Another day in the life a harried grandma,
Whose been taking God’s goodness for granted.
I grabbed all the kids and hugged them tight,
“Lord forgive me for being disenchanted.”
Life is sure‘nough like a box of chocolates,
But My Jesus has given me the best treat!
A home, a family, and food in my cupboard,
With His love and salvation - I’m complete!
