My wife has been wanting a new couch for some time now. We can play with our cat underneath through the springs while we relax above. However, I kept putting off going next door to initiate moving the better half of our new love seat. I always have had a little problem with procrastination.
Now our neighbors were moving. As my wife was watching them move out, the boyfriend (who hadn’t been around lately) asked her if she wanted one of their couches – a different, not so comfortable or attractive one. She said no. The roommate who had helped me move the love seat spoke up and acknowledged that they had promised us the matching couch. To my wife’s disappointment, the boyfriend responded that he had already promised that couch to a buddy of his.
My wife relayed these events to me yesterday afternoon. So I went to God’s supply house and asked if He could work it out so we still got the matching sofa. Well, praise God, my wife called me at work today and said the boyfriend’s buddy decided he didn’t want the sofa, and they offered it back to my wife. Once again, God has supplied a need.
Oh, remember that dead-engine car that I traded for the love seat? I mustered up a few hundred bucks to try to find a cheap vehicle to get me around. One day my dad picked me up from work (I was now taking a bus until I found a used car), and brought me to his house where a 1998 Buick Century Custom was sitting in the driveway. The short of it is …I gave my dad a few hundred bucks for an immaculate car that I have yet to find the smallest thing wrong with it. It’s like it came right off the assembly line. I wasn’t even asking God to help me out. I thought I could handle it myself. And He still supplied my need beyond my expectation.
A little over a year ago, I was offered a publishing contract that was going to involve an investment on my part even though I was dealing with a mainline publisher that chooses only a limited number of the submissions that they receive each month. The same week I was offered the contract, I filed my taxes and my refund was almost exactly what I needed to get my Christian book published. God had supplied what I needed to get His word out to as many people as I could.
As I backtrack a few years, I had begun to develop better as a writer as a result of attending Bible college. When I had first made the decision to start college, I didn’t know where I was going to get the money to begin the upcoming semester. I had a beautiful customized van that I loved. As I was driving back from my interview on the campus, the thought came to me that I had to sell my van. So I reluctantly asked God how much I should sell it for. Fifteen hundred dollars came to my mind. I went to prayer meeting that night and expressed my request that God would provide a buyer. After church someone recommended a particular car dealer. When I went there and asked them how much they would be willing to give me, they offered me $1500.00. God had supplied my need.
I’m sure many other Christians have similar testimonies of God’s provisions in their lives. I’m an average guy with an average job, living paycheck to paycheck like millions of other people, always hoping that one day… But my father in heaven reminds me from time to time that He is rich. So when I’m in a pinch – and sometimes when He just feels like spoiling me – God gives me a little something from His supply house.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19, KJV
