Hopes
I hope one day to be a mom.
I hope I don’t conform.
I hope that William likes me enough
To ask me to the prom.
I hope one day they all will see
The sacrifice I’ve made.
I hope they’ll fall upon their knees
And ask for my Father’s aid.
I hope my dad lives through this night.
I hope I don’t get caught.
I hope that when I climb this wall
My weight won’t break the knot.
I hope they’ll stop the hurting soon.
My back can’t take much more.
I hope they’ll know I love them despite
Their bitterness and scorn.
I hope I get an A today.
I hope my car is fixed.
I hope that when I get home
My drink’s already mixed.
I hope my Father heeds my cry.
They don’t know what they do!
I hope that when my side is pierced
They’d start their lives anew.
I hope that Reggie marries me.
I hope they did their chores.
I hope when I get on that stage
I don’t vomit on the floor.
I hope the end comes quickly now
So I can be reborn.
I hope that when I close my eyes
They’ll understand why I was torn.
I hope I’ll understand his pain.
I hope my kids stay well.
I hope to be a CEO,
Yes, that would be just swell.
I hope I do not frighten them.
I hope they’ll know my face.
I hope that they will see my scars
And know I’ve left Death’s Place.
I hope mom pays for college.
I hope my rent is paid.
I hope to be a teacher someday
If I can make the grade.
I hope they will talk of me.
I hope others will learn.
I hope that they will spread my love
And with the Holy Spirit burn.
I hope I get home safely.
I hope that bug is dead.
I hope that when my fingers slip
I won’t fall and crack my head.
I hope they’ll see the futility
Of hoping on their own.
I hope that when all others fail
They’ll turn to Me alone.
