It was early November and the sun was shining brightly in the sky. The mercury had risen to above 40’ C and the white, sandy Aussie beaches were overloaded with people. As the sun slowly began to set on that hot summers day my dad loaded the car with all of our beach things and headed off to hit the waves.

We were enjoying a fun filled afternoon in the cool water when I noticed my sister was nowhere to be seen. Pandemonium hit as the rest of my family swam around calling out my sister name. Then I heard it, the siren sounding and people scurrying out of the water as quickly as they could all the while shouting out the word ‘SHARK’ in panicked voices. Suddenly I felt someone grab me and start dragging me to shore, while I kicked and screamed trying to resist. I had to find my sister I just had to.

I was taken to hospital via ambulance as I was suffering shock; it wasn’t until hours later when I heard the shocking news. My whole family was dead; the same shark had killed them all. That day I became an orphan, my whole world was turned upside down. The one thing that kept me going through that time; was knowing that on that fateful day they had entered the gates of heaven and were now free from pain and suffering.

Your article brought back memories of those who were recently hit by the killer waves Tsunami. The ending note with a positive outlook about life is astounding. Good writing.
