Their small, wiggly bodies come creeping into your bed in the middle of the night. With repetitive loud songs they burst in on your morning slumber. With pudgy fingers they probe nostrils for evidence of life and prod bellies for their own enjoyment. When you want to avoid contact with other life forms, they tap, hit, and rub your arms with great enthusiasm. These little space invaders are searching for signs of life and love from their sleep-deprived parents.

From their first arrival as single-celled organisms they began their campaign of full infiltration. First, they change their host's moods and body functions and then they slowly take over the space reserved for her inner organs. When they have had their fill of internal occupation, they change their domain to the outer physical world. Here they interrupt each precious night's sleep with their loud, frequent cries. Of course they can be pacified with sustenance and light pressure to the back, but then they release ill-smelling bodily fluids and gases as a return.

As they grow in size and maturity they began to take over other areas of life. Deep meaningful dinner conversations are broken up by the latest version of musical pandemonim and interrupted by the need to clear bodily discharges. Needless to say, all truly meaningful discourse must be entertained after these time-consuming beings have been settled down for their nightly periods of dormancy.

Be very aware of when you lay down on the floor to reach one of their abandoned play instruments. As soon as your body lies flat against the ground or your backside sticks up in the air, then they will attack! These creatures are relentless as they jump on your back or walk on your legs in an effort to engage you in their play. Once you have been taken into their fanciful games, there is no return! They will just want more and more of your time and attention.

Their most sizable attack, and also the most subtle, is their campaign to seize your heart. From the first time they smile at you or call you endearing names like "momma" or "daddy," they gain ground over your ventricular center. Their aim is to penetrate every corner of your emotions and totally conquer your love. They will win. These persistent space invaders will never give up until they have totally subjugated your former existence and made you their captive parent for life!

When I read the first line,I thought I was about to read a horror story,...but,thank God for the space invaders.Daily they teach us a thing or two,no wonder we are advised to be like them.
I have been a victim too.Their campaigns and their aims are directed to the heart, and you are right; they are conquerors.

Very nice. And just wait until you have space-children -- er, grandchildren! They really take up space, blessedly so!

Very creative, and an interesting read. Keeps the reader glued until the end. Thanks for the sweet "off the wall" depiction of our little ones. I enjoyed it.
