It hurt when I realized he was once a pilgrim, his desire for travel existed then, but just for his religious devotion. Importance mattered to him, sacredness meant a lot but now he has converted that desire solely for gratification. He thought his wait was too long, he felt he needed something to show for his pilgrimmage, something to tell that he was on a path. The beauty that had just begun to blossom from inside, he looked down on, because he wanted it outside first, he chose rather to be a tourist, checking sites without devotion to any. Now he has visited many sites but keeps realizing how many he is yet to see, he cannot be satisfied, but beyond that, his heart has begun to darken.
The joy and love and peace which he could not show have given way to anger, bitterness, dissatisfaction, strife, rivalry, jealousy, covetousness. So, the one we once new with a glow, a smile, has turned. What exudes now is the darkness on his inside, he goes around, seemingly happy with what he has seen but he can never be satisfied he has lost his glow because holiness is beautiful but darkness is gross and ugly. Beauty has evaded him.
He meets others who share in his plight and I hear of how he goes from place to place but returns unsatisfied, seeking another place of interest. He cannot be satisfied, the void in him can not be filled because satisfaction from a place of interest can only last for a while, he wants more. More which you can only get from devotion, from commitment to a cause.
