TITLE: Mighty Man of Valor
By Robin Ocasio

It was in the watches of the night when the vision came to me. What I witnessed made me toss and turn in my bed like a door on its hinges.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

It was the cadence of thousands upon thousands of marching feet.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

The ground shook with the sheer awesome power of those feet hitting the ground as one.

The resonance was deafening.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

It sent out shock waves, vibrating everything and everyone for miles around, even in my very soul.

The trees on the distant hills swayed before falling to the ground in humble submission.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

It was an army.

An army so vast it utterly swallowed up the landscape and made the mountains in the distance look like mere pebbles on the desert ground.

Too many to count and yet they all, each individual, moved as one.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

Each man, held a flashing sword in his hand, and did warfare as he marched.

Turning first to the right,

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump,

And then to the left,

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

It was awesome, exhilarating.

My breath caught in my throat as I recognized the desire to be a part of this army, and then suddenly, I was taking my place in the ranks.

I was a part of the great and mighty, “Army of the Lord!” Yea!

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

I was at the very back and I was safe.

I was a warrior

As we marched more soldiers continually joined the ranks on either side of me.

In formation, our appearance was that of a huge square extending as far as the eye could see in each direction.

We completely covered the landscape, marching to and fro through the earth, obeying each new command with instantaneous unity.

Then, as one, each turned to the right and the soldiers that occupied the right edge of the square were now the front line.

K-thump, K-thump, K-thump…

Swish, Swish, Swish… It was the flashing of our swords engaged in warfare.

K-thump-Swish, K-thump-Swish, K-thump-Swish…

Onward we marched, onward we fought.

The battle was fierce.

The enemy kept coming, one after another, falling almost as fast as they came.

I was safe.

K-thump-Swish, K-thump-Swish, K-thump-Swish…

As one, we turned to the right.

Now I was on the front line.

The enemy was before me.

Fear entered my heart. It was a tiny fear. Fear for my safety and no bigger than the smallest speck. Yet it was there.

I wanted to fight, but the fear grew bigger within me.

The bigger my fear grew, the duller, more blunted my sword became.

K-thump-clank, clank, clank

My sword grew heavier and my feet felt as if they were encased in cement.

I didn’t want to be on the front line. I didn’t want to die. Would I die in battle?

Suddenly, I was looking on from a place of safety. I was high on a rugged mountain top looking down into a great valley at the scene taking place beneath me.

K-thump-swish, the battle raged on.

I wasn’t alone on my mountain top. I knew instantly that the Father was with me. He was at my side.

I felt ashamed of my fear, worthless, like one gigantic failure.

Yet, I could feel His great love towards me. It washed over me.

It seemed like the battle below was growing even more intense, if that were possible.

The Father allowed me to watch from my place of safety.

All the while His consuming love was melting my fears, dissolving every doubt, filling me with assurance in his ability to keep me from stumbling, or falling, triumphant in His glory.

I knew this was a great battle, a battle that had been ongoing throughout the ages and yet it would continue into the end times leading up to the day of the great and final battle.

The choice was mine, I could either sit on the sidelines from afar or I could rejoin the battle. I could go forth in His love, fearless performing great and mighty exploits in His name, in unison with Him and his awesome body.

I made my choice, and just like that I was again in the ranks, fighting the good fight.

I am a warrior, ushering in the Kingdom of God.

His love consumes me.

When the enemy emerges,

K-thump-swish, swish

I have NO FEAR.

My God is with me.

Interesting way to demonstrate God's army.

I John 4:7-21 When our love is perfected fear is driven out.

Our love is perfected when we love our brother. Loving our brethren is a challenge we must also be engaged in as commanded by God.

Thank you for this creative entry; well written and thought provoking. Christians can relate to the sense of personal failure when faith falters, and the Lord's ministry to restore the joy of our salvation, giving us courage to re-join the ranks.
