Sorry, I'm not into "free verse"...but if I were - I'd probably like it. Thanks for sharing and GOod Luck!
"Winter brings" at the beginning of each stanza helps to connect it all together...good! I liked the words "deafening silence", "snow angels and snowmen guarding yards" and "frozen explorers upon their return". The word pictures are appetizing and memorable. Thank you for sharing this jewel.

Enjoyed reading your Nice written poem. I went from cold to warm with: “Winter brings
Rubber boots to keep feet warm and dry
Mittens to protect our hands
Mom makes cocoa
For frozen explorers
Upon their return

Winter brings the promise of spring
For new growth lies buried
And dormant under snow
Waiting for the first rays of
Spring sun to call them out
And bless the newness of the seasons”
Thank you for your beautiful flowing poem. Thank You, I Loved It, Helen

Beautiful poem. Being in Texas with lots of sunshine, I am not aware of winter as you, but it makes me even want to live where you are. thanks also for reviewing my article on the Great Vineyard. God's blessings to you and your writing. In christian love, Teresa
