TITLE: Our God Reins(TTT) (A personal psalm)
By Caleb Cheong

Our God Reins!(A personal psalm)

Poring over Writing Challenge one calm morning
Rudely interrupted by my daughters' wrangling
At once I dashed to the sad scene quick like lightning
Instantly throwing myself between the girls checking
Hoping to sort out what'd been transpiring

Go away my younger girl stared at me snapping
Then off to her room stomping and slamming
Leaping to my mind, this verse set me meditating
A gentle answer turns away wrath-it's stating
But a harsh word stirs up anger -it's His warning

You're rude! You must apologize to me! I responded
Gently and firmly I demanded
At her direction helplessly I lamented
Reining in anger I made it firm and gentle
Showing an example to my young and vulnerable

For the whole day nobody was communicating
Uneasy quietness over us was reigning
The atmosphere of the family was gnawing
An invisible wall of enmity soon started building
Manifested mainly through snubbing and sulking

I can't help but pensively pondering
over poor anger-management that's so glaring
In our daily media they seem proliferating
at home, at work, at school, and at play-- occurring
from highway to free way-- comes road raging

Having learned over the years I'm now mellowing
I've realized I can't control people's reactions
But I can control my response and emotions
I'm still not yet perfect, readily admitting
When come to anger I'm no saint ,seriously speaking

Sometimes I lose my cool and start yelling
But when this verse from Proverbs comes nudging
and gripping-I'd better rein in my huffing
I was glad I followed the Spirit's prompting
I couldn't imagine what the outcome or happening

Indeed it made my day in the next evening
When my younger daughter came apologizing
She approached me while going to the hall dinning
Explaining her frustrations of the day, sobbing
Sharing her unhappiness without exploding

We forgave her and forgot the whole thing
The family moves on in life journey, learning
It may seem an everyday happening
but it's offered us insights for living
when His word of wisdom gets our heeding

Proverbs still holds true; we're truly benefiting
When it's like a red rag to the bull that's charging
it pays to rein in our tongue from straying
'A soft answer' in response is worth practicing
He'll give us unique peace as His blessing

Such a great story you presented in the form of a poem. You did a good job & almost had every line ending in "ing" It's on topic and has a good ending. Hope you get a ribbon, keep writing.

I love the play on words in the title. I thought 'reins' was misspelled and should have been 'reigns', then as I read on - figured it out - God helps us rein in our emotions! Great message! Keep writing.

Our God does indeed Reign, as you have so aptly put here. This is an excellent story told of how life lets us know just how much we need Him.

Thanks for sharing and keep on writing for Him!
