God does not desire or require us to succeed at being a good Christian. That may seem like a very erroneous and illogical statement, but it is true. He does not us to work at being a good Christian. He wants us to rest in Him and allow Him to live His life through us.
Hebrews 4:9-10 says, “There remains therefore a rest for the people for God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God from His.” And in Philippians 2:13 it says, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
It is true. There is a rest for the believer. He wants to do it. When we quit struggling so hard to be a good Christian we can rest in Him. It is God that performs this life in us. It is His life birthed and growing in us. It is not us trying to be better humans, to be Christian humans. No. No. No. That is all our own efforts.
He wants us to come to the end of ourselves. He wants us to cease our struggle to be a Christian. He wants us to die with Jesus. Then He can raise us up to new life. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living in us. It is what causes us to be alive in Him. It is not our efforts. Romans 6:10-11 says, “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Have you come to the end of yourself? Has the person that tries so hard to be a good Christian ceased to exist? Have you expired to all your human efforts? Have you witnessed your own death? It can be scary. But…
There is an amazing peace and joy that comes with His resurrection power. It will be an amazing life as you begin to see changes in you that weren’t caused from your own efforts. It is like watching a power greater than you living through you.
To get this amazing life, we must expire, die, cease our own efforts and allow Him to live through us.
