“Mom!” Tera turned toward the house.
“Yes, Tera?” Her mom opened the storm door.
“Will you call me in twenty minutes please?”
“I have better things to do than time you; come and get the timer.” The storm door closed.
“I’m all slicked up and she wants me to walk into the house.” She whispered to her dog. “Suzy, why can’t I remember to get everything I need before I put sun lotion on? Well, I better wipe my feet clean and go get that timer or I’ll burn.” She muttered to herself as she accomplished the task. “Now, I can rest in the sun without a care. No one will get in my hair. My complexion goes to dark from fair.” She was fond of singing and making poems about what she was doing. Sometimes the words came with a tune for singing, sometimes not.
As she lay quietly, her mind went to the Sunday school lesson she was studying. It was about Acts 11:14 “Who will tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.” She thought that the preacher in their church was the one to tell everybody. Now, she wasn’t so sure. The preacher had mentioned the Holy Ghost several times. Did the Holy Ghost tell people what words to say to save them? Was the preacher the one He told; then the preacher would tell them? “I just don’t know, Suzy do you know? It will be a rough row to hoe, but I’ve got to know, so when twenty minutes are up I’m going to go, look in the Bible and learn, now don’t tell me no, I want the answer out of the book to flow.” Waving her arms in time to the tune, she grabbed Suzy swinging her to the tune in her head.
“AArrff!” Suzy’s tail started swinging. “Arf!”
“Hush, Suzy, it’s Joe.” Tera jumped up off the lounge. “Hi, Joe, whadda ya know?”
“I know I never saw a girl rhyme words as much as you. How ya doin?” Joe grabbed her hand and sat on the lounge.
“I’m doin fine; takin’ time to recline. Let the sun do its work; if I stayed white I’d go berserk.” Tera sat down away from Joe so that his clothes wouldn’t get greasy.
“My girl, soon, we’re gonna marry and be rich! We’ll sell all your rhymes in a book. I love you.” Joe kissed her lightly. “Ugh, too much lotion.” He wiped his mouth.
“I love you back. Hon, I was just thinking about the lesson on Sunday. Do you know who tells us the words to say that’ll bring us and our household to the Lord?” Scratching her head Tera made a weird face.
“Well, I used to think that the Holy Ghost only spoke to preachers, then, I went to a retreat with a bunch of men. Some of the people were acting like they were drunk, saying things that made absolutely no sense. I tried to run, but Roy stopped me and explained that the Holy Ghost put words in their mouth that we couldn’t understand but the Bible calls it a heavenly language. I learned a lot that weekend. You know, I’d love to find a church like that. After we marry, would you go to whatever church I pick?”
“Yes indeed, of worry you have no need. I will go where you lead.” Tera tried to hold him close, but he pulled away.
“No you don’t! I’m not getting these clothes slimy!” He ran out of her way. “Be back at six, don’t sizzle, be ready for the flix. Hey, that rhymed! I can talk in rhymes to.” He walked through the hedge.
“I’ll be ready on that you can depend. Let’s pray this date will never end.”

“Times up, come on Suzy, Let’s get ready. I’ve got a date with my steady.”
