A single rain drop
splashes into the water
interrupting its tranquil surface.
The stillness of the summer dusk
is broken by the flash of lightening
and echoes of thunder rolling across the lake.
A boat chugs toward its mooring
as a howling wind builds strength and speed,
waves threatening to overturn the vessel as it struggles to shore.
Just as a single doubt
rises unbidden in the recesses of my mind
spreading tiny ripples across the fabric of my heart.
The routine of life,
the stability to which I cling,
disintegrates under the pressure of uncertainty and fear.
Nibbling at the edges of my resolve,
despair threatens to draw me
into the depths of the pool of self-pity.
But He who says "Peace, be still" quiets the swirl of faithless doubt.
With my eyes fastened on Him, hand upraised, He lifts me from the sea of fear.
The Anchor of my soul holds me securely in the harbor of hope amid the storm of life.
