“Prayer should be the key that unlocks and locks your day.” This is a phrase I have heard many times throughout my life. It didn't really mean much to me when I was younger but since then I have definitely grown in my faith. When I was younger I wasn't all that into praying or talking to God at all, which I’m sure is normal. I would see learning a new prayer as a chore, and that it wasn't going to make me a better person, it wasn't going to make me successful in life. But at a time in my life, around the time I was going to be confirmed, I realized that prayer wasn't just memorizing ancient prayers or bible passages, it was talking to God and letting him know you care and that you are grateful for him. Later I looked at prayer in the morning as kind of a “help me today” sort of conversation with God. It helped because if I had any big tests that day than I would always talk to God and ask him to help me remember. At night, before I went to sleep, I would just talk to God and kind of reflect on my day, apologize if I did something I knew I shouldn't have. But as of late, I was kind feeling like I was “using” God. I wasn't really talking to him as much as I was just getting reassurance from him. I felt kind of rude because it’s like when someone is only your friend because you’re rich, or they need help studying so they’re nice to you. So lately I have been talking to God every morning, just touching base with him, tell him scenarios that might happen today. At night I still reflect on my day, and tell him what I did. I know this is kind of funny because, he’s God, he sees everything I do every second of the day, but I am just doing what I was taught, locking up may day with my key, prayer.
