What is in Your Hand/
In the Bible so we are told
Shepherds needed a staff to hold.
God told Moses, “Throw yours down!”
Obedience brought him renown.
In Egypt he used it again
To get old Pharaoh’s permission.
After nine plagues failed to persuade,
Death of his first born made him afraid.
God told Moses, “Stretch out your staff.”
The Red Sea parted on their behalf.
The Israelites crossed on dry ground.
The pursuing Egyptians drowned.
The people complained on their walk.
With his staff Moses struck the rock.
To quench their thirst, water came out.
God was in charge there was no doubt.
When each tribe’s leader his staff brought
Learning who should be priest was sought,
Aaron’s budded, bloomed, almonds bore.
After that in the Ark to store.
David’s staff was memorable too.
He had it when the stone he threw.
With God’s help Goliath he slew.
The Lord as his shepherd he knew.
Thy rod and staff comfort us too.
When we commit our lives to you.
What is in our hand you can use.
Your command we must not refuse.
