The widow was so encouraged by Job’s gifts that her heart was singing. For the first time since becoming a widow, she had reason to sing. After her husband was gone, there was nobody. She had no children and therefore no grandchildren. She did not even have a niece or a nephew to take care of her. There was not one single person who she could turn to and she was so alone and lonely.
Then Job heard about her dilemma. He did not wait, but gathered up everything that he thought that she would need. After this, he got his head servant to help him take it to her. As if this was not enough, while he was there he accessed her situation, because he wanted to make sure that she would have all the things that she would need.
Yes, Job took his giving to the ultimate, like the Good Samaritan. That is why the widow was singing.
(A scripture that I was reading in Job the other day inspired this, “…and I caused the widows’ hearts to sing for joy” (Job 29:13b-NLT.)
