“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. Notice here that Jesus specifies “I”. He does not say “Vacation”, nor does He say” A few days off.” Only He can give you rest.
There is a hole inside of you that needs to be filled. There is a yearning within that you do not understand, that you know is there but you cannot comprehend for it is not of human design, nor can it be filled by human means. No, it is a hole that was designed by God and can only be filled by God. Weariness works the same way; and you are tired.
You are tired of things that don’t work; efforts that go unrewarded and faith that returns empty-handed. You are weary from chasing dreams that go nowhere, methods that lead to madness and promises that aren’t worthy of the letters that make up the words spoken, words that turn out to be nothing more than well-concealed lies. It doesn’t have to be that way. It doesn’t have to be that way for there is a better way; and that way is Jesus Christ.
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29. Your soul is weary. Weary of doing things your way. Weary of the burdens you carry for you carry them alone. Burdens placed upon you by yourself and by others who do not have your best interest in mind. Come. Come to the One whose yoke is easy and whose burden is light. Come to the One Who is gentle and lowly in heart. Only He knows what you truly need.
“For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:30. In Him you will find no burden that weighs you down, for His burden is light. In Him you’ll find only freedom. Freedom from strife, freedom from worry and freedom from burdens of your own design and fears you can’t shake; freedom from doing it alone. He will never leave you, nor will He forsake you. He will be there, by your side, no matter what happens. And He will give you rest. What are you waiting for?
