I know so many people who like life to stay evenly-paced, predictable and to remain on an even keel. They like knowing that each day will segue to the next without any calamities or catastrophes like spilled milk or cold coffee. We like life to be even. Predictable. Flat.
But God never intended for our lives to be flat and shapeless in their unchanging days. In the very beginning He created the day and the night with hours of light and dark, the changing times of the seasons, and different stages in our lives as a rhythm for our lives. Ecclesiastes 3: 1 NKJV tells us: To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. When we seek to live a flat and predictable life without change, we are actually seeking to live in a way God never intended for us.
Absolutely, change is often difficult and sometimes as in the loss of a job or the death of a loved one very unpleasant and undesirable. But God uses different times and circumstances in our lives to grow up and teach us new truths about Him and even about ourselves. The hilltop experiences teach us to praise God for His goodness to us and the valleys teach us to grow deeper in our faith as God is often our only comfort in dark and lonely days.
So none of us should seek the flat sameness and fight against all changes in our lives. God created us with the need for an up and down rhythm to our lives... right down to our own heartbeat.
