a twisted and treacherous way,
where lions and beasts, lurk and follow
molesting and mauling, their prey,
and there on that highway of heartache
where dark, loathsome, terrors abound,
my heart, grew akin to the barren
disconsolate, grief-stricken, ground.
I came to the crossroads of crisis
and pondered the route I had trod,
the Highway to Holiness, lay ahead
it's destination, was God.
The way was unclear, but the road seemed clean
exempt from all evil and strife,
and thorns gave way, to a verdant green
for therein, flowed the river of life.
Enfeebled and weak, I rested awhile
unsure, how the dust of the dead,
and grime from the journey, would reconcile
with this virtuous road ahead.
I cried out to God, to show me the way
He showed me my darkened heart,
and the shameful, contentious, iniquity
of the secretive, innermost parts.
By this entrance of consecration
an elderly, High Priest stood,
He told of the need, for oblation
and the work of atoning blood.
By grace and truth, He did impart
a righteousness all of His own,
and gave me a tender and penitent heart
in exchange, for my offering of stone
Now I travel this unfamiliar road
at times I draw back, on my own,
then I hear the voice, of the man of God
and it urges, "let us go on,"
so I draw aside and seek to pray
to my heavenly Father above,
and ask Him to lead and illume the way
on this pathway, of perfect love
The beauty of holiness, marks this land
the sojourners are, but a few,
a praying people, a holy band
who the world and it's evil, eschew.
This narrow road, is safe and secure
and marked by a sweet perfume,
an exquisite fragrance, lovely and pure
from the roses and lilies, that bloom.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keeps his way preserves his soul.
