To every individual is appointed a finite allotment of this precious resource,
And each may choose, according to his inclination,
How best to use it.
To idly while it away or perhaps to strive for something more ambitious,
To chase earthly successes or humbly to invest in others,
According to each man’s conscience, he may choose.
The gift is not distributed according to a schedule based on merit,
But rather by divine, and therefore unfathomable, grace.
This great blessing is bestowed seemingly at random on sinner and saint alike.
The much lamented catch to such an unwarranted bequest:
Once spent, no matter how regretful the former possessor,
It can never be regained.
So choose each day with care
What sort of steward you will be.
It’s not how many minutes you are given,
But how you choose to live them.
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Eph. 5:15-16 NIV
