The night was dark and very still
No moon could my eyes see.
With heavy heart and not but will
A prayer I offered Thee.

My tears did flow in steady stream
No words could my heart find
My life now seemed a horrid dream
All peace had left my mind.

"Have You somehow forgotten me?
Have I escaped Your care?
Your servant I’ll forever be
But the burden’s hard to bear."

From somewhere deep within my soul
A melody was born
And from my lips His praise did roll
Mending a heart so torn.

Singing released my troubled heart
From Satan’s crushing grip
Causing him to depart
Each note caused him to trip.

With each verse my heart did write
A love note to my King.
His peace washing away my fright
And comfort did He bring.

“My child I’m here, be not afraid
Have faith and trust in Me.
‘Twas just for this My life I gave
My death has set you free.

Should troubles come as life goes on
Should Satan rear his head.
Should darkness chase away the dawn
And hope seem all but dead.

Raise your eyes to Heaven above
And sing with heart and voice.
Bring forth again a song of love
For singing is a choice.

Singing is like waging a war
When praises from you ring
For Satan loses all valor
When I am worshiped as you sing.”

This is a powerful poem with a great message, and some good work on rhyme and rhythm. One thing I'd try to avoid: the construction "did ______" (did flow, did roll, did write) is usually awkward and is best avoided.

A top-notch poem that really "sings!"

In the deepest trials of our lives, God always gives a song. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Lovely poem.
