Abby, a very successful entrepreneur and powerful man, one who had established an impressive little kingdom in his area of the world, came to recognition of concern to him.
Now that he had time to pause a moment to reflect he realized that he had not spent much personal time with the members of his family during these years of hard work.
Certainly he saw his immediate family occasionally, as they each came in and out; but he was a man with a large family, and in truth he had a deep love for them all. Abby considered himself a family man.
Sitting in his spacious office, looking out over the calm water beyond the busy streets of his city a fantastic idea came to Abby’s mind; he would prepare a banquet and invite all of his family! “That is a great idea,” he thought. “Yes, we could be there together and we could talk and visit around excellent food!” So he began the plan; Abby was always a man with a plan.
When the family names were counted he realized it was to be a gigantic undertaking, there were 300 names on the list. How wonderful to have such a large family! He knew just the man to employ for the food preparation, Barry, at Barry’s Beautiful Buffets. Barry would be the only Chef to do it right, and it must be just right.
Abby also wanted to present each member of the family with a special gift, one of great value. This would be a meal they would never forget and his heart was excited to give each of them this one of a kind gift.
Early the next morning Abby telephoned Barry telling him of his huge plan, and while Barry offered catering, Abby did not want prepared food brought into his home, he wanted Barry to come to his home and prepare the food there so that it would be fresher.
His contract with Barry was that the banquet was to be magnificent, spare no cost; and Barry was to bring the best of his Food Preparation and Wait Staff.
Barry arrived with the previously purchased food and he and his staff began the meal preparation early in the day. The dining room must be prepared also because good food must be complemented by a beautifully set table. Looking around in the storage closets of the immense room he found everything he needed. “That’s no surprise,” he thought; “Abby is always a man with a plan and he has excellent taste in everything he does.”
Barry decided to use the white linen tablecloths and the napkins that were interestingly variegated with white and blue threads. He found light blue crystal water glasses, which he did not know existed anywhere, and the light blue china plates that seemed to demand that one fix their gaze upon them. “Now where is the table silver?”
Opening the correct door he found the gleaming gold and silver table settings. Counting the sets he discovered that there were 300 of them! “No surprise,” he thought; “Abby is always a man with a plan.”
As Barry viewed the table set so precisely, he was very pleased with the springs of freshly cut ivy that he had placed intermittently on each of the circular tables, in between which he would place his gorgeous dishes of food.
Each table seated 25 guests and there were 12 tables, each table had a Wait Table so that the guests would be well served; “That’s a plan Abby would approve,” he said to himself.
The food was ready in the kitchen and it was time for the guests to arrive for the pre-meal socializing but there were only 70 in attendance. What was to be done?
Approaching Abby, who was looking a little forlorn, Barry asked, “How shall we change the plan for serving the meal?” Abby’s answer was that Barry should send his Prep and Wait Staff out into the streets, and into the businesses, and the apartment buildings, and invite everyone they saw to, “Come to the Banquet!”
Barry stood a little hesitantly, and then asked Abby, “What if they don’t have time to get dressed for the Banquet since the food is ready now?”
Abby stood straight and strong and with a broad smile, he said, “Tell them to come as they are, my banquet tables must be filled; I’ve paid a great price!”
Always, Abby is a man with a plan.
