Abraham
With heavy heart
Took his son
And listened to the whispered words
Of the God he’d walked with many years.

A God he loved.
A God he trusted.
It could not be that God would take back what He had given.
Yet Abraham began the long sad journey.
It was the hardest walk he’d ever walked.

Nevertheless, he carried a knife.
Prepared to obey.
Believing that God
Could do the impossible
And keep His promise
Even in death

Jesus
With heavy heart
Was the son
Who knew the journey that lay ahead
For He was one with the Father.

The Father He loved.
The Father He trusted.
He did not want to take that long hard journey.
He prayed that it would not have to be taken.
It was the hardest walk he’d ever walked.

Nevertheless, he set His face like flint.
Prepared to obey
Knowing that God
Would do the impossible
And keep His promise
Of ending death.

Imperfect obedience began a nation -
Obedience born of imperfect love
And imperfect trust.

Perfect obedience purchased salvation -
Obedience born of perfect love
And perfect trust.

Praise God.

Excellent. I love the way you linked the two. The last verse in particular was very good.

I too liked the way you linked the two in your poem and crystalized the end into "perfect trust"
