If I ponder being rich is it
dollar signs Iíll see is it
silver gold and copper that will
bring me to my knees? is it

power prestige honor is it
glory destiny am I
rich if shiny bulbs spell out
my name for all to see? sell me

stocks and bonds and bullion sparkling
rings upon my fingers dancing
baubles bangles dangling
sweet aromas that will linger. should I

sell my soul for diamonds should I
swap it for some land can I
get one thousand acres or
perhaps one hundred grand? or is

rich completely different is it
something I canít see is it
something that has nothing
not a thing to do with me? is it

actually a feeling a
submissive state of mind is it
giving till it hurts or maybe
giving sight to blind? are my

treasures here on earth or are they
hidden somewhere else is my
heart worth nothing till itís filled with
hands scarred by nails? am I

really only wealthy when my
pockets are quite empty but my
spirits simply bursting in the
state that He has left me? I am

only now a king when a
towel is in my hand washing
feet that have grown weary treading
some uncharted land. when Iím

giving and not taking I am
rich beyond belief when Iím
taking care of anybody
anyone but me.

I'm not usually really gbig on poems as I feel so much goes over my head. Though I stumbled once or twice (One spot was the towel in hand washing feet) for the most part the flow was beautiful on its own merit. Then you added the perfect words to expand on the flow. The way you worded each line and knew when to stop is amazing. You were bale to get me into the rhythm of each verse and that's something that is hard for me to do. The message is beautiful and right on topic. I so enjoyed this piece.

I really enjoyed this poem...the flow was nice and the words were very thoughtful about being rich.

A very good read.

This is the best poem I think I have read on challenge so far. Really good, I write poetry but not like that! True to topic and the topic made it all the more inspiring to me .....I loved it.

Congratulations on your first place! A lovely meditation on being 'rich'. I especially like your last 2 stanzas.
