Before the fire fell down, you made your escape
You knew you didn't have, a second to wait
Running out like your hair's on fire
'Cause you don't want to be ash on the pyre
Everybody else can give in to desire
No that's not for you

Chorus:
So you dash like mad and don't give it another thought
It'll run through your head when you're miles away
Never you stop before you get past the border
If you look back, you'll just be tempted to stay

You felt the weight of doom pressing down hard
Heard the whispers grow louder inside of your heart
Every hissing plea, every justification
Not to quit this place and refuse temptation
Listen to the voice that promises salvation
The only hope for you

Chorus

You were forewarned, so it's only your fault
If you get struck down or turn to salt
Petrified by every tear you cried
Captive of the sins you still deny
There is a way to make up for regrets
But time's running out, this is all that you get
Don't hesitate when heaven's at your door
Chase after Him until you can't feel the heat anymore

Chorus x 2

Powerful rendition of the familiar Bible story...I can hear the music to this inspiring song. Nicely done. Thank you. God Bless~

Great message. My favorite line is "If you look back, you'll be tempted to stay" That's a warning lots of people should hear. Good writing.

Wow! I'm not a big poet person but this piece grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. Most of my life I've had a death phobia. It brings on full on panic attacks. Your words were so soothing and I have no doubt God asked you to write this piece just for me. Bless you.

This is a powerful poem with a serious message. Some great word choices. Good writing.

Great poem about running from temptation! I like how you have us running towards God in the end, because He's the only One who can deliver us from the sweltering fire of our sins.

Awesome word pictures! Great for "Don't Look Back."

I love poetry and to that degree, I loved your entry. It is, however, hard for me to wrap my mind around what the whole thing would sound as a song, i.e., the chorus. Beautiful wording!

Excellent poetic thoughts! You've captured the essence of the biblical event in your poem very well. Good job!
