Gave my gold to Aaron
In the winter of my discontent
Melted down Your blessings
Got manmade by trading heavensent
I called it progress once
Now I shake my head in disbelief
To think I'd leave the one true God
For a piece of shiny beef

Chorus:
It's idol curiousity that gets me every time
The suspicion that the vomit I rejected tastes divine
While I'm dreaming that I'm gaining
My love for You is waning
As I miss out on the blessings You provide
Always chasing a lie

Danced around the statue
Heaping empty words upon a stone
Praises to this creature
Begging hope that You can give alone
I raised my hands before
But that was when I thought You weren't enough
That fantasy I dashed upon the only
Rock who's worthy of my love

Chorus

Looking in the mirror made me realize
That I become the image of all I idolize
With a heart as cold as stone
And a life as cheap as gold
A life that's not sold out for You will fold

Chorus

Always chasing a lie
Why oh why

If you're wondering what on earth this has to do with "achievement", it's about not worshipping the things we create ourselves, like we can make our own God. Can't be done! There's only one! :D

It might be a bit of a stretch for achievement, but still has a great message. Many good thoughts.

I admire anyone who can write music, but as a lay person, I have a hard time getting the feel of it unless I am hearing the actual music. Your message is good; I'm just not one who can "translate" if you will the words to what I can't hear. My downfall!

I think this piece is right on topic and very well done. The poetry in the chorus is excellent and compelling, and the imagery throughout is interesting. Good job. Slightly different and a little edgy, but very clear in it's meaning.

A very interesting twist on the topic. We cannot achieve anything when we allow our curiosity/ambition/"idol" worship to take away what we could have once we yield ourselves to God. Loved the imagery: "Winter of my content, image of all I idolize. fantasy dashed on a rock." Great lyrics that would do well when set to music.

This piece really touched me. Convicted me, might be a better way to say it. We wonder how those Israelites could leave the One True God for a "shiny piece of beef" (great line, btw), but then your line about looking in the mirror and seeing what we idolize? Man, this is good, really good!

Great visuals in this piece - nicely done.

This was brilliant on so many levels. The message, the words used to bring the poem to "life." I loved it. Creative, powerful and well done.

GOd bless~
