Gideon was a humble man from a tribe so low and weak.
He was unsure of God’s call. He was frightened; he was meek.

God needed an obedient man, a man whom He could trust
To fight the mighty Midianites – a tribe hostile, unjust.

God spoke to him through angels. Gideon sacrificed and more.
Flames licked the proper offering with a holy fire’s roar.

Gideon knew God’s perfect plan, but still he wavered so.
He needed godly evidence – like a bull’s eye and a bow.

One night he set a wad of fleece upon a floor of wood.
The fleece was wet; the floor was not. God triumphed, which was good.

But, he was stubborn, down in doubt. He tested God again!
The fleece was dry; the floor was not. And, he wallowed in chagrin.

Thus, Gideon heeded God’s great call to be His special man
Against the enemy fierce and strong according to God’s plan.

The holy God and Gideon went forth with hand in hand.
They destroyed these pagan men, who defiled the Israelite’s land.

They slew the fierce and evil tribes with courage very strong.
God hated Baal and their idols! Their deeds were dark and wrong.

Thus, Gideon became an honored judge across the fair country.
The Lord was pleased with Gideon; he was all He thought he’d be.

But, Gideon had a flaw. To Baal and his gods, he returned.
God was furious with his treachery, for His love was cold and spurned.

Gideon left a legacy of testing God with a sign.
A weakened faith, a doubtful mind, to seek God’s will divine.

Today we have the Bible and the Holy Spirit, too.
So we don’t need experiments to see what we should do.

Just lean upon the Savior, He’ll give you all you need.
For direction, for His comfort – And, in life you will succeed.

Super-fantastic. Lovely. Well done.

I especially loved this line:

"Flames licked the proper offering with a holy fire’s roar."
