They carried me o’er the river –
The river of my demise-
And when I got to the other side,
I couldn’t believe my eyes!

Glorious creatures all in white
Fluttered and flew all about.
They asked me for my status there,
And I said with a joyful shout!

“Christ’s blood, so pure and innocent,
Is stamped upon my heart.
He forgave me all my sins
And gave my life a new start.”

They graciously heeded me
To this land of evermore
Where the ecstasy of Christ exists
With angels, saints and more.

I was amazed to finally be
In my eternal place,
And I just couldn’t wait to see
The glory of Jesus’ face.

They brought me to a splendid place,
A place so very grand.
The room was silent ‘til He came
With a Bible in his hand.

Then the angel choir started
With praises all around
And, when He spoke majestically –
His voice - the only sound.

He called me by my earthly name
With a tone like soft spring showers.
He called me “Faithful Servant” –
His love sweet as wedding flowers.

I fell down on my shaky knees.
A tear dampened my eye.
He was the awesome King of Kings,
And I was just a guy.

His presence – overwhelming!
His beauty – a delight!
With crystal eyes that mesmerize
All things pure and right.

He called me to his bosom,
My body, rather weak
He stood close by with loving eyes,
And He kissed me on the cheek.

Waves of love washed over me,
I felt rapturous and amazed.
I never felt such love before
In all my earthly days.

I could hardly catch my breath;
I never felt that way.
His holiness and purity
Were revealed to me that day.

Other souls sought Jesus
So I left that throne of gold.
What occurred to me that day
Was an epic to be told.

From that point on I made a home
With heaven’s splendid treasures.
And, being with the Living Lord
Brought me lasting pleasures.

What a great poem. Flows so easily. I could picture it all as if it was my own experience.

I'm not a poet though I have attempted a few in the past. I enjoyed yours very much. I am not qualified to critique the format or style, but you did a wonderful job of proclaiming your love for our Savior! What a day that will be!

This is really a beautiful poem. The awesomeness of that first face-to-face encounter will take our breaths away.
