The knock on the door sent a wave of fear through the little group of Christ Followers, as they liked to call themselves. Josh the leader of this cell, as both the press and police liked to call the small bands of believers that were scattered throughout the world, gave a nod to Steve to go to the door and see who was there. As Steve started towards the door of the small frame house that He and His wife, Amy, called home, Amy and Laura His daughter were busy picking up all the Bibles, from those who were blessed enough to still have a copy. At the same time Josh had opened a cabinet in the kitchen and quickly removed a fake back wall, revealing several empty shelves. Amy and Laura carried the Bibles to Josh who quickly placed them on the shelves, and then just as quick replaced the fake wall, and closed the cabinet. Mean while the six other people, in the house broke into little groups, doing their best to laugh and talk, trying to act as though this was just a get together of neighbors and friends, instead of a meeting of a home Bible study, which they all knew was against the law. If they were caught they would be charged with conducting a Hate Crimes Orientation Meeting. The UN had passed this law along with many others throughout the Would back in 2010. After the U.S. President, under pressure from other World powers, liberal polaticans, pro-abortion, gay rights, liberal media, and liberal clergymen in the U.S. and leaders of all the other World religions had abolished congress and The Supreme Court and placed America under the UNs New World Wide Government and Court System.
What made it even worse was the presence of Laura. Because She was under the age of Eighteen, if the group was exposed by the police all of them would also be charged with Indoctrinating a Minor with Dangerous Anti-Social Behavior. The results of this crime, if they were convicted, and all of them knew they would be, would include that Laura would be taken away from Her parents and become a ward of the state, and that She would never be allowed to have any contact with them again. Also they would face several, but equality serve penalties. All of which would include a so-called psychological profile to determine if any of them could be rehabilitated At some point in the future after years of under going counseling, they would be given an opportunity to be placed on life long probation, but only if they took The Pledge. This was the greatest fear of any of The Christ Followers, The Pledge, was the last chance, if a Follower refused to take it they could face life in prison or even death.
The greatest fear about The Pledge was not that a Christ Follower would not take it but when faced with life in prison or death that they would take it. Simply the Follower had to swear that Christ was not born of a virgin, that He had not lived a sinless life, that He was not The Only Begotten Son Of God, that The Bible is not infallible nor in fact was It even true. Last and most important that faith in Christ alone was not a means to salvation, because it was narrow-minded and excluded all other religions. Of course taking this pledge, while saving ones physical life, meant the lost of Eternal Life, because Christ Himself had said That if we deny Him before men, that He would deny us before His Father. To help Followers, who might be tempted to take the pledge, when faced with prison, or more likely death, all Followers were required to memorize two verses of Scripture which were both find in the book of Acts. The first was Acts; 4:19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Weather it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. Followed by Acts; 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. It was with these Scriptures in mind and a peace in His heart that no matter who was standing on the other side of the door, Steve turned the knob on the door.
