Topic: The Importance of Being Earnest (not about the play) (08/04/11)
NONNEGOTIABLE

The Lord has called me to write. He didn’t mention publishing or contests, but I believe he’s using FaithWriters.com, weekly contests to jolt me out of my inactivity. He is very serious when he says my calling is writing. He doesn’t want me to do my best, but he does want me to do whatever it takes.

The Lord has a calling or plan for each one of us. Maybe his calling is to garden, change majors, become a volunteer, etc. It behooves us to discover what that is. Someday, as Christians, we will stand before the throne and give an account. He’s going to want to know if we accomplished the calling he placed on our hearts.

He’s not interested in excuses. He doesn’t want you to follow the calling of your, best friend. He wants you to hear him for yourself! The calling he has for you isn’t optional or open to debate. He’s the omniscient God, and has your welfare on his heart.

Actually it’s a blessing to be focused on your calling. It provides peace, purpose, and fulfillment. It’s necessary to persevere. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. (Romans 5:3-4, NIV) Most of us aren’t too keen on sufferings, but perseverance, character and hope are surely assets in our lives. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1, NIV)

This is a nice, short, but to the points piece. Sometimes it's hard to answer God's calling, but when we do the reward is incredible.

Remember not to mention Faithwriter's challenge in your piece because the editor's choices get selected for an anthology and the reader wouldn't know about the contest.

You've done a great job and I'm glad you listened to God's calling.

When we envision God's calling there is nothing better than to start carrying it out. You have begun. Keep writing!
