It must be the strangest one that ever grew
Every branch is heavy with fruits of crime
For years I cried God why here I’m included
Why not a sweeter bearing one could I be a part
There must be some mistake, I belong elsewhere
Vowing such fruit would never be my offspring
I hungered for righteousness, and sweet harmony
I tried to do good, go to church and always do right
Loving the blossoms that sprung from my limbs
The buds opened in season with sweet fragrance
I knew without a doubt no need for pruning here
Then one day as blooms gave way to fruit
My heart was broken with each dark spot
Could it be my efforts could all be in vain
The fruit grew stronger and heavier on the branch
Until finally it was firm and ready for harvest
Falling from the limb but to my great surprise
It landed not where I planned and dreamed it would go
But into the world of disrespect for authority and rules
My branch was another marred with fruits of darkness
It took deep conviction by my precious creator God
To reveal it was from Eve’s tree from whence I came
I was confronted by guilt and crimes against my maker
Redemption He gave to this chiefest of sinners
Through the blood of His Son my sins are forgiven
Now my family tree is not the same as before
Now I’m grafted by God into the amazing tree of life
My confidence is sure from where my strength comes
The joyful pain of new growth is aided by His presence
I trust you Lord Jesus and pray for the grafting of others
May they escape the punishment of eternal separation
And find the love I found in spite of all my crimes
By trusting Jesus Christ for eternal security and
Finding the love that passes all understanding
And learn to walk closer as each day passes
Now spiritual fruit for God and others I long to bear
Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
Faith, meekness, and temperance: (Galatians 5:22-23)
