It was advertised as, “The Sale of the Century - a blowout sale to end all sales.” The furniture store was going out of business and had placed all their items at a mark-down, bottom of the barrel price, or so they said.

As a devout bargain hunter I am always on the lookout for a good buy. As I browsed the isles looking for a bargain I was a bit disappointed to find the advertised low prices to be much more than expected.

Then to my surprise I saw a chest in the corner. The paint was peeling off and the drawers didn’t work properly. It would take a lot of work, but with some tender loving care could be restored to a very beautiful piece. I probably could have purchased it for very little, and yet I knew if I took it home, I would not take the time and effort to do it justice. The price to restore this piece was higher still than I was willing to pay.

The items I enjoy hunting are unusual, special, or maybe they are missing the rest of the set or have been on the showroom floor for a long time. Although these items may have been held in high regard by their maker, the furniture store is usually ready to get them out of the store. These items may be overlooked by most bargain hunters, but they may be just what I would want. Yet still, I would not pay the original cost, nor would I accept battered and worn pieces. Picky you say? Well maybe, but I would like to believe I know a good deal when I see one.

The day my Savior left heaven, He was not looking for a blowout sale. He was prepared to pay an amazingly high price to obtain a run down, useless, despicable human being. This person destined for the fires of destruction. had a tag that read “one perfect life required.”

Jesus knew the ones He had come for, made the necessary sacrifices, and prevailed against the evil one who owned us. It was not an easy ordeal, for He had to suffer, bleed, die and endure even hell, but the price was finally "paid in full."

Did Jesus make a good deal? It was certainly not for His advantage, but love made Him willing to pay the ultimate cost. I told you I could spot a good deal. The blowout deal of all time has come to man. He paid a lot more than you and I are worth and, is restoring us even today.

Wow, I’m glad my Savior is not a bargain hunter. Aren’t you?

Good job! I'll think of this next time I go bargain hunting. Thank you.

A great message with a most understandable example. Would be a great piece to put in a devotional book. Keep up the good work:)

This was a nice devotion with a strong message. I really liked that you shared a bit of yourself. My only suggestion would be toleave out the last line, you've made your message Clear and asking the question gives it a slightly preachy feel. If you wanted to add a discussion question at the end like What time in your life were you glad Jesus came at no cost to you? That's not the best example but you did a great job showing Jesus' sacrifice in terms everyone can relate to.
