The word outbreak brings to mind many different situations. The outbreak of disease, the outbreak of incarcerated prisoners, the outbreak of storms and bad weather, and the list goes on. The common denominator of all these incidents is the representation of negative situations.

In this season of Lent with Easter waiting in the wings, we think about one of the most positive events in history and in our lives as Christians. That event being our Lord’s outbreak from death – winning eternal life for all believing sinners. We could call it the outbreak of love.

Imagine the amount of love that must have been present for this event to be successful. Who do you love enough to do what Jesus did for us? The biggest difference being that Jesus showed this outpouring of love to all people – not to just his friends or relatives and not to just those who believed – the easiest people to love. He endured this horrible end to his life for all sinners – even those who didn’t yet know Jesus. And so it is today – every time the Easter story is told, the invitation is extended to be included in the masses for which Jesus went to the grave to save. We need only believe that this great outpouring of love was done for us that we might not have to endure the suffering Jesus did on the cross. He carried us with him to that cross on the hill, to the grave behind that large stone and to heaven where we will spend eternal life. We enjoy the easy part – believing and telling others how lucky we are to know Jesus and what He has done for us and for all people.
