TITLE: More Years-More Tears
By Andrew Charles

There are 6000 years and then there are also 15 billion years. This basically is the argument between the young earth and the old universe theories. Can they both be right? At one time we didn’t even have a start until ‘the big bang’ event was discovered. Before ‘the big bang’ there was no such thing as a beginning according to the scientific community. Most of the scientists were in a state of denial as this was verified. Of all people Albert Einstein argued against it. After more examination and evidence Einstein realized there was a start in the universe. Einstein was a giant of a man and actually went to Hubble and apologized. Of course it was Hubble’s telescope that confirmed that the universe is expanding at 80% of the speed of light. What the scientists don’t want you to know is that if the universe was going a little slower than that 148,800 miles per second it would deflate and if it were traveling a little faster it would go completely out of control. That takes a tremendous amount of luck unless you have a really ‘Good Engineer.’

Then there is a disagreement between the Jews and the Christians who believe in the young earth theory. The Jews say this is year 5761 and the Christians say it is closer to year 6011. You will notice there is a year 250 year difference. It is very explainable in that the Jews did not acknowledge a period of 250 years that they were under captivity.

We all know that’s God’s time clock is not the same as our time clock. This is confirmed by Einstein that time is not a constant in the universe. Einstein also told us that time goes faster after it passes us as evidenced by red shift then before it comes to us. Peter told us in 2 Peter: 3-8, “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. This is also referred to in Psalm 90:4.In Jewish culture a thousand could represent a large number or it could mean exactly one thousand. The millennial day theory from early Christianity believed by a substantial number of Christians felt that as the earth was created in seven days it would last seven thousand years. The beginning of the 7000th year is the beginning of the seventh day representing the 1000 year reign of Christ.
There are a very important number of years that we read about 15 times in the Bible. God used 40 years as a time of probation and chastisement for the nation Israel. Just a few of the examples are Israel under Philistines rule, Moses spent 40 years in Egypt, Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness, and the reign of King David lasted 40 years.

In the Book of Daniel it talks about 70 seven year periods to atone for the sins of Israel. There would be a period of seven years times seven and the a period of seven years times 62 and finally at the final seven years called tribulation there would be one more seven year period. Most Bible scholars confirm there would be a period of time between the 69th seven year period and the final 7 year period. The time interval would be known as the time of the Gentiles.

Year(s) is a very important subject in our Scriptures. Of course with the fig tree(House of Israel) ripened the next discussion is how long the generation to which the bible refers. Is it 40 years, is it 43 years, or is it 70 years from that date that Israel got Jerusalem back in 1967 and that fig tree had ripened.

good factual writing on the theme. i like the clear unemotional way that you have approached this. having seen many histrionic debates on the topic of the young earth and evolution this is a breath of fresh air.
