Quiet settled before God made the heavens and the earth,
His intricately designed plan leading to all creations birth,
Light sent down, illuminated the world during the day,
While night’s silv’ry darkness descended for time to reflect and pray.
Peace be still, settled down the angry waves on the wild sea,
Sober words obeyed by the powerful forces that yearned to break free,
In the beginning clear waters covered the land below,
The sky’s resplendent glory casting a soft, ethereal glow.
Shhh! the earth cried out beneath the soft, white blanket of snow,
Waiting for the right time to release the slumbering life below,
God awakened nature by sending down the sun’s fierce heat,
Gently turning what seemed dark and cold into a marvelous treat.
Shush! twinkling stars and tranquil moon danced in the sky at night,
Majestic sun joined in the day to make it continu’lly bright,
All heaven’s visible signs that days, years, and seasons change,
Shifting benevolent objects in an inexhaustible range.
Calm and slow are the eagle’s wings propelling it to fly,
Majestic, princely birds ascended to greater heights in the sky,
Down below the monstrous whale swam in the vast ocean,
Moving its fins and stinging tail all in one rapturous motion.
Hush! the mom whispered while gently rocking her child to sleep,
Watched her baby’s peaceful breathing changed from a plaintive weep,
Man was made in God’s own image to reflect his sweet grace,
Fallen and broken, until Christ’s loving action took our sins place.
Rest! God’s work was finished and he gloried in its beauty,
His heavenly gift given out of love, not some sense of duty,
When life’s woes and worldly cares threaten to bring us undone,
It is into the safe, unfailing arms of Jesus we must run.
