“Hey Tracy its Jamie, have you heard that Peter and Melissa’s divorce is being talked about from everyone in the church now”?
“I know, I wonder how it got around so fast”.
“Yeah, you didn’t tell anyone else did you”?
“Of course not, except for what I told you and Katie, oh and Grace; but you know ya’ll are all my closest friends”. “You know God understands that we have to have some close friends in our life to tell things to, right”? “I mean, He can’t possibly expect us to keep everything a secret”?
“Well I suppose, but I thought that is what our husbands were for”. “They are there to confide in, as we become one in marriage and we can know that our deepest conversations are held in a quiet sanctity”.
“Oh, well yeah Jamie, I guess so”. “I mean I did tell Steve about it too, but I just thought he was a given since he is my husband”.
“Well, are you sure Katie or Grace didn’t say anything to anyone else”?
“Oh they would never repeat anything I told them; at least I don’t think they would”?
“Well Tracy, you know what happened between Melissa and Peter is very sad, but everything we know is questionable as neither of us has talked to either of them personally”. “I would hate to be the one to have given false information out; their situation is hard enough without all the gossiping”.
“I see what you are saying, I’ll be sure to be more careful next time”.
“Yeah, sounds like a good plan”. “Well, I’ll talk to you later then, bye”.
.....
Tracy shook her head as she dialed Grace’s number, “Grace you are never going to believe the conversation I just had with Jamie”.
“What did she say”?
“Well, she called to say that the whole church is now talking about Melissa and Peter’s divorce and I think she was making sure I hadn’t been the one to let it out”. “Can you believe she would think I would tell everyone”?
“Wow, does she think one of us must have told someone who let it out”?
“Maybe, she said I should only talk to my husband from now on, so I definitely will be leaving her out of the loop”.
“Wow, well yeah I told Brian of course and my Mom, but neither of them would say anything”.
“Yeah see I told her you wouldn’t say anything”. “She’s just being over dramatic”.
“Well, I’m sure she doesn’t really believe you are the one who let it out”. “I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you”, Grace said as she hastily ended the call.
.....
“Katie, this is Grace, have you talked to Tracy yet”?
“No, what is going on”?
“Well, you know when she told us about Melissa and Peter separating”?
“Yeah, everyone is talking about it now”.
“Well, you didn’t tell anyone else did you”?
“Oh of course not, well except Robin but you know she’s trustworthy, oh and Travis, since he is my husband”.
“Okay, I was just curious”. “It is sad because everyone already knows and Melissa doesn’t have a clue”. “Well thanks, have a good day”.
.....
“Tracy, hey its Katie, I heard what Jamie said to you”. “Maybe she is just jealous because you have other close friends besides her”?
“Hey girl, I have no idea, I just can’t believe she would think I’m responsible for letting the whole church know”. “I mean I didn’t tell anyone, well besides ya’ll, but God understands”.
“Yeah of course, I’ll see you tomorrow”.
.....
“Before we start our ladies bible study tonight, I have some news that I feel cannot wait any longer to tell”, Melissa begins.
Eyes began to look back and forth at each other with concern on their faces as they all know what is about to be announced.
“As you’ve probably noticed, Peter left a few weeks ago”. “Although this is bittersweet to have to say, he headed back to Texas to begin looking for a new home”. “He has decided it would be best to live closer to family as our life is in the process of a big change”….
“I am PREGNANT”, she announced with a huge smile on her face!
The crowd exploded with joy as a voice yelled out, “So you’re not getting a divorce”?
“What, why would you ever think a thing like that”, Melissa asked curiously?
Instantly Tracy felt a rush of heat.
