TITLE: Farwell My Love
By Kathy Barnes

Dear Son,

My sweet precious babe, by the time you are old enough to read this I will be with your father. I sit here in the dark, rocking, and singing, ďJesus Loves MeĒ and dreading the rising of the dawn. The last two weeks have been such a blessing because of the joy you have brought me. I wanted you to know how much you are loved and wanted. My son you are perfect, and so beautiful to my eyes. I love you with all my heart. The doctors said the radiation would never let us conceive. Your father and I hoped and prayed that we would have a child for many years. We waited so long for you, and now my heart is being ripped out of me for I have to give you up. I would give anything if there were any other way, but it is not safe for me to keep you. Babies of Christian are burn alive.

I wish you father would have lived to see your face. I was in labor when the Beastís henchmen caught our trail. He allowed himself to be captured and tortured. They crucified him upside down, his sacrifice gave us enough time to get across the river, and the others time enough to move me to a save place so that you could be born. I wanted you to know just how much he loved you.

Mary, Lori, you and I have been hidden in this cavern for two weeks now. You were born into the darkness of a cave, however so was the Lord. God has been looking out for us. An owl has brought a rabbit and a can of milk each night and we had not had to venture out. Tom, John, and Ray have just got back to us. They left shortly after we got here trying to lead the henchmen away.

Tomorrow, we must move. They will head away, but I must head into the city and try to get you to some friends. Your father and I have known them since we were little kids. Your new mother and father have wanted a child as bad as we have. They will take good care of you and give you the best chance of a normal life. They are good people. Neither truly believes in the Beast, but they were not willing to give up their current safety to spend life on the run. We are always hunted, looking for a place to stay and something to eat. When the Beastís henchmen can, they torture us to try to make us denounce Christ. However, they will shoot on site if they think we might get away. My biggest fear is, that I will be captured and break. Once I leave, you will be safe. They only kill the babies to make the parents take the mark of the Beast. The madness will be over before you reach and the age of accountability.

Donít fear, if they get too close I will smother you, before I let them set you on fire. It will be easy to get into the city. They pretend not to notice that you donít have the mark going in. Once inside, it is easier to trap believers. They take more pleasure and rejoice more, if they can turn one against God as opposed to just taking oneís life. I just have to survive long enough to get you to safety. I am weak; Tom has medicine that will paralyze the tongue. It will guarantee that I donít renounce Christ, but I will never be able to eat and swallow food again. I pray that I die fast.

Your father and I will never hear your first word, nor will we be there to see your first step. I would be lying, if I did not say that I was not temped to take the mark just so I could be with you. Christ died for me and I must die for Him. However, we will be looking down from heaven and keeping watch over you until you join us in there. My darling never forget that you are loved. You are special, and priceless, loved by two sets of parents and God. When you are older and we are reunited, I will tell you all the blessing that God has given us. Know this, outside of salvation, you will always be the greatest blessing.

This is well done. You gave an outstanding vision of what the world might be like during the apocalypse.

You did have a few typos, but the heart wrenching story made them barely noticeable. Excellent writing.

This is very powerful!

Don't feel that you have to tell an entire back story in 750 words. Some of your descriptive passages could have been tightened up or eliminated so that you could help us to get to know this letter-writer and her own circumstances better.

Heartbreaking and compelling story, with great potential.
