Topic: Discern (08/12/10)

By W. Yvonne Birnell

Paul tells us an idol can be anything. I looked up the word idol in the dictionary and found this. Idol: object of adoration, object worshiped as god. In the thesaurus I found words like; hero, pinup, star, obsession, ideal, favorite. This opened my thought process and then I remembered, THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

May I step back a moment please?

In my former years I went to many doctors and hung on all their words, I took all those pills and spent thousands of dollars, only to find out I kept getting worse. Then one day as I was skimming through The Word of God, I found this verse. 2nd Chr. 16:12 where, King Asa was diseased in his feet and didn’t seek the Lord, but the physicians and died. Wow, I THOUGHT, that is farther down the body than my problem.

That got my attention so I went to the New Testament and searched. There I found my problem, where a woman, with an issue of blood had gone to doctors and spent all her money and only got worse, BUT when she heard, what Jesus had done, she said to herself, “If I just touch the hem of His garment, I shall be healed.”

Well I went from skimming to diving in and started diving deeper, through the scriptures, day and night, I went and with all my digging I could not come up with one verse, in the New Testament. that said, Jesus sent anyone to a doctor. Not one verse. The closest I came, was when He, was in His home town, it states, He could do no good, because of their unbelief.

Then I started going through the Word of God to find scriptures that talked about healing. I SAT and I read and read and I asked questions and it seemed the more I asked the more I was led to another scripture. One thing I would like to note is, Jesus saying, “Your faith has made you whole, or let it be done according to your faith.” After thinking, considering and reflecting on all the words I had put in, all of a sudden I received understanding. Especially when I read in MalachI, as it is written, try
Me, I did try and I found Him to be true. I am healed, I no longer trust in doctors, I won’t even carry insurance. I am totally relying of God and His Word.

Who is my star, who is my hero, who is my favorite, who am I obsessed with? Jesus the Christ, The Word of God, which is the Wisdom and Power of Love, which is another story, He is my all in all. I cherish Him above all my friends and family. He is my protector, my healer, my supplier, and my life.

Each of us needs to discern, which way is the best for us. Are you walking in health, peace, joy and love. If not may I ask; How many idols do you have, standing between you and your Creator?

I will not lie to you, it takes a lot of work, but when I jumped overboard and swam down to find Wisdom and stayed with her until I got understanding. I found out just how awesome God is. As it is written, The fear of the Lord, is just the beginning of Wisdom. Believe through the story or through your own finding, as it is Written, so it is true, Labor to Rest,

Perhaps a little extreme thought. One of Jesus' diciples was a Doctor, but I feel strongly that we need to let God lead us and help us discern which way He has planned for us. He created all of the things that man has used to care for people in their needs. I guess I believe fully in a balance, not extremes, but this was well written.

This is an interesting read. It gave me quite a bit of things to think about. I'm glad it is working for you, but I also believe God gave doctors the wisdom and desire to help others. When someone is ill and asks me to pray for them, I do. But I also give thanks for the doctors and hospitals that he provided for us. I like how you backed up your opinions with scripture.
