In St. Petersburg, Fl., there is a gorgeous hotel called the Don Czar. It's architecture is exquisite, the location perfect, and there you are treated like royalty. There are several restaurants with the finest cuisine in house, and there are shops with the latest styles. But it was not always so. This opulent palace had a much different beginning. During world war ll it was a veterans hospital. It was stark, bleak, and barren. It was filled with young men, barely older then boys, who had lost arms, legs, and even their lives defending our country. The halls were lined with wheelchairs and gurney's, the smell of death was in the air. The thought of this being a place of relaxation and leisure was far from the thoughts of the doctors and nurses who worked there. After the war, the building sat empty for many many years. The windows were broken out, the roof leaked, it was an embarrasment to the business owners of down town St. Pete. Talk of condemning the building and tearing it down was the topic of every council meeting. But something wonderful happened, somebody dared to dream. A group of investors got together and decided that the Don Czar was worth saving. The rest is history.
We are alot like the Don in it's fallen state. We are lost, decaying and dying day by day. In our fallen state we are alone, abandoned, lifeless and hopeless. But just like the investors who saw life and promise in a fallen down building, God saw life and promise for us. He had so much love for us, that he invested the life of his only son to bring us back to the place of restoration with Him. We too are a new creation, built by the master craftsman, who brings glory to it's creator. There is hope for fallen man, as there was hope for a fallen building. How much more glorious is the end of a thing then it's beginning when God is in control.
