The Write Time

I got tired of household tasks
And cleaning up the yard.
So I enrolled in CWG
To study arts of Bard.

I learned a lot; they taught me well.
They thought that I was gifted.
When I wrote, I felt fulfilled;
My dour mood was lifted.

I tried my hand at poetry,
A novel, and short story.
I even prayed to Christ the Lord
To whom I gave the glory.

I was writing all the time -
On paper - in my head.
The best time for my writing spree
Was with the kids in bed.

One night it was challenging
To write with them within.
Their interruptions, shouts, and screams
Aroused my toughest skin.

I locked my door to keep them out,
But it didn't stop their fighting.
My mind went blank; my fingers froze,
And I stopped my precious writing.

I decided then and there
To appease my darling kin.
I softened up, put my pen down
And bid them, "Do come in!"

So we sat down and talked about
God's goodness from above,
Who gives us gifts to use on earth
To glorify His love.

I said I needed time to write
My poems and my prose,
And they agreed to go to bed
To take their midnight doze.

I found the greatest challenge
To a poet's beat and rhyme
Is not the actual writing work;
It's finding the right time!

A fun poem and how true it is. Children give us so much to write about and so little time to do it!

Whether or not it is because of children, you identified the biggest challenge that many of us face. Loved the poem!

You said it! I often end up writing after the midnight hour. But during NaNoWriMo, or when I HAVE to get something written to deadline, I have a sign which I post on my office door: I Still Love You But I Am Writing! Do Not Disturb!

I loved your poem. All writers must get away from everyday distraction to write, but sometimes life situations call and we must put down our pens until God's timing is in place. Thank you for such a fun poem.
