As a writer since age ten,
I was finding pickings slim.
My brain was empty matter,
My pen was tapping clatter.

I've got to break this famine;
The dearth of words examine.
I gave myself a challenge,
My career on this did hinge.

The challenge, write a story,
Tell all about loves glory.
How Jesus loves us, each one,
Regardless of what we've done.

This task to me was daunting,
No words, said my muse, flaunting
His ability to come up with more,
More than my memory stores.

Behave, I told him bravely,
Knowing that he could save me
From the lack of good words drought.
My eyes were good, my heart stout.

Without words, a writers mind,
Feels panic, to self unkind.
He berates talent a lot.
Victories are earned not bought.

Okay, I said to my mind,
The right words I now must find.
Dear Lord, please help this writer,
My talent, with grace please stir.

As I said the last “amen”,
I looked down to see my pen.
My pen then began to write
Words about love, not just tripe.

Love partners Grace, to mend
Broken hearts, marriages, kin.
Forgiveness is needed here,
Overlook that fault, its dear.

Oh, Lord, what word goes in here,
How do I write this with cheer;
Why is my mind at times blank?
Why cannot my muse be frank?

I yield my mind and pen now,
To your supreme mind I bow.
Please Lord, guide my pen today,
Let it write the words you say.

Dear child of mine His voice said,
Words you want are in your head.
Love your neighbor for a start,
Write these words upon your heart.

Love is what you have to do,
To fail to love is taboo.
Dear reader, this goes out to you,
Love, Faith, Charity, renew.

Be kind to your brother now,
To all God's Commandments bow.
Give your soul to him my friend.
Always on His love depend.

Hooray, the challenge is met.
Dear pen we are not through yet.
With God's help, the talent flows.
God's words through my pen do go!

Great reminder that God can give us a boost of inspiration when we write!

I had just a tad trouble keeping up with the rhythm in a few spots. Some word choices felt almost forced or out of place, but that could just be me. ;)

Thank you for sharing this poem!

He WILL help indeed! A good reminder for all writers of where to go.

I agree with Rachel - the rhythm was a touch off - but I still enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

"Why cannot my muse be frank?" Whoo boy! How many times have I asked my muse this? (: We can all relate to this writer's lament.

You were able to describe what so many writers feel and go through. I enjoy writing poems as well but often have trouble with my rhythm. But practice makes perfect. Your message is definitely an important one to hear.

Your message is so clear through your poetry - you've touched me.
