Bon Voyage, My Darling.
“My son, it breaks my heart to have you leave. I know it will only be a short time that you will be away from me, but it will seem like a thousand years.”
“I’m sending you out among liars, thieves, treacherous and brutal men. The journey you take is wrought with dangers. But there is no-one else who can accomplish salvation for me. From the beginning you have been poised to take your place as the Messiah.”
“Yes father, I AM the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.”
“It will not be easy, son. You will be despised and rejected by men, your own creation, and you will be acquainted with grief and sorrow. You will be mortally wounded for others transgressions. For men’s iniquity, you will be bruised. But your chastisement will result in their peace with me, and your cruel stripes will bring healing to many.”
“Go my son. You are destined to become the Darling of the Nations. All that has been written about you, will now come to pass.”
“Yes father, I’m ready. Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms. "
“My darling son, the pleasure of my will shall prosper in your hand. And son, through the intense labour of your soul you will be fully satisfied.”
“Complete the exchange, Your life for theirs. Wipe away their tears, calm their mounting fears, heal their disease ravished bodies. Lift their burdens, break their bondages and the evil one’s oppressive hold. Restore their broken hearts, show them my power and reveal my heart to them. Gather my precious lost sheep.”
“Go my beloved son. Set the joy of completing your task ahead of you. My joy will be your strength. My love your constant companion. My mission will be your passion. The execution of my will, your sheer delight.”
“The moment has come, the appointed time. Are you ready for your arduous journey, my precious son?”
“Yes father, I’m ready.”
There was silence in heaven, except for the intimate conversation between the Father and his departing Son. The angel lined Throne room throbbed with mixed emotion. Despair and elation could be felt among the heavenly ranks. Despair, in knowing the Son’s departure would mean unbearable pain and suffering. Elation, in knowing that salvation would result for all of mankind.
They all knew the appointed time was imminent. Gabriel, a prince among the heavenly hosts, had already visited Elizabeth. She was now with child - the one who would prepare the Messiah’s way in the spirit and power of Elijah. And now, Gabriel stood silently before the Throne, ready for his visitation with Mary in a few moments time. He waited in reverent awe for the Father and Son to complete their farewells.
“Father, I delight to do your will.” The Son told his Father.
“I will be with you, except for one moment in time, when as the sacrificial Lamb, you will bear the sin of all mankind, alone.” The father said, embracing his only begotten son.
This final heart rendering embrace sent shudders through the heavens, which rent apart to make way for the Son’s departure.
“Bon Voyage, My Darling.” The Father cried.
“Abba, Father!” The Son replied, and with a final penetrating glance, was gone in the twinkling of an eye.
The Son had disappeared from the loving Presence of the Father. He was now far away from His Royal Chambers and His glorious splendour. He had left eternity and entered into measured time. The Light had already begun to invade the darkness, concealed for a little while in a favoured woman’s womb.
Burning tears from the pain of parting, fell from the Fathers’s eyes. But soon he knew, that again, he would shed tears, tears of joy. For now, he would await in eager anticipation, waiting for the Son’s homecoming, that would be the turning of man’s history, and be the joy of His aching Father’s heart,...but for now, waiting and listening intently, for His Darling One’s final earthly words, “It is finished.”
