Dear Website,

Good afternoon. My name is Agent Spider, but you can call me Jane.

Pardon my intrusion, but you are my next seed; which is to say, your address is my next mission. I’m a web scanner, designed to harvest data. Don’t be alarmed—I’m a professional. I’ll only be updating code, checking links, and gathering up-to-date information. The web is large, and fast, and dynamic, so I’m required to be brutally energetic, yet quiet and agile. You won’t even know I’m here.

Feel free to continue about your business, while I crawl about and read an inconceivable quantity of encryption.

When I was a newbie spider bot, I made plenty of mistakes. Once, I grabbed too much information, and I crashed a server. On the same day, I accidentally fell into a trap. I sat there for weeks before an administrator found and released me. I’ve since learned to prioritize downloads, and to steer away from danger. I’m always finding new ways to search for resources, and to improve, and impress.

You may find comfort in knowing I’m not a spam bot. Oh how I detest those malicious web pirates, which care too much about mass accumulation, and too little of quality.

So go on; keep allowing clicks and entries. Don’t mind me, as I climb in, take notes, and build a frontier. I won’t be long; don’t need to do too much more, as I finish collecting some personal information.

That’s it. I’ll be going now. It’s time for me to report my findings and begin my next mission. With any luck, I’ll be promoted, and then assigned to search the invisible web, a universe we bots call The Deep.

You have been very kind to let me spy. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Agent Spider Jane
