Squishing a bug
But especially a snail
Demands from within me
A scrunched face and one heck of a wail

Swatting a bee
With great hopes he will flee
Instead he so chooses to finally land
But to my dismay
Within my closed hand
I utter my eekÖ
My woe and my ouch
Itís mother I seek
So I spring from the couch

A snake in my path
My heart takes a leap
Striding my dance
I take a great chance
And there I sit perched
Upon a near fence
Chiding my wrath in all my defense

Grasshoppers can fly
And surely you know
They sometimes can be
A bothersome foe
At mighty great speed
I felt a hard thud
And into my forehead
It left its green blood

There is only one bug
I think I could hug
Now letís have some fun
By guessing which one

She dresses in red
From her toes to her head
At times she wears spots
And is dabbled in dots

So I hope you can see
That his bug I could hug
Can only, yes be, a Ladybug!

Really cute!

I hate bugs so much that I felt squirmy just reading this! Well done.

The meter and pacing were just right for a child's poem.

This is great. I will admit I find bugs to be great company when one is lonely. I'm sure many people will be able to relate to this cute little poem, both the young and the young at heart.

I really enjoyed the topic and sentiment of the poem but had a difficult time getting into the flow since the rhyme scheme changed during the reading. I admit that most of that problem is my own as I have the same difficulty with some famous poetry as well. The poem was still very fun to read.

Very visual and creative. Good use of the assigned word. The meter (rhythm) is off in places, but overall it is a very nice piece.
Allen Stark03/05/10
Nicely done, and I do agree that the meter seems to be off here and there, but then you may have been distrated as something flew by.

I hate bugs, but I LOVED your poem. Great job, Holly! Way to go!

Congratulations on your placement, my friend!
