Day after day after day
Waiting for someone to look at me,
And see more than a picture display.
Pick me up, I call to those
Whose eyes pass by in haste;
Look deeper, please; don't turn away.
Please tell me it wasn't a waste.
Touch me, I'd like to feel your life
And share some of mine with you.
I'm small; I don't need much room
A few moments here and there should do.
I might remind you of where you've been
Or perhaps of something from which you're free.
Someone thought I was beautiful once
And created this life for you to see.
But now I've sat here, drawing dust,
Watching many lives walk by each day
With no pause to stop and talk to me,
For the cost of time is too high to pay.
Take me with you; show me your friends;
I have more to give than you know.
Keep me and pass me along if you want,
Just give me a chance to grow.
I want to be more than a memory
Taped to a page and enclosed in a book.
I want to be a part of you.
Just turn my way, and take a look.
Read about me, and see who I am
I have much to share with you.
Ask me my name, and hear what I say.
With my help you can make it through.
I'll continue to sit upon this shelf,
Turning round and round again each day,
Praying that you'll stop and think of me
And give me a chance to show you the way.
