I remember the night so clearly. I was driving home. As the road curved back and forth around the mountain, I could see the city lights twinkling in the valley below me. Suddenly, it was there and I had nowhere to go. As my car hit the rock lying in the middle of the road, I lost control and could see nothing but the headlights of an approaching car.
“Jesus! Help me!”
When it was all over, I realized that I was alive but my car was demolished. As the days passed, I found myself wondering why I survived with such minor injuries. Why did the people in the other car have such serious injuries? Why did someone have to die? It was not fair. This was not supposed to happen to me. I was only 17 years old.
As I sought the Lord, He reminded me of His promise in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God didn’t want to just give me hope, He had a plan for me. He helped me understand that in this life, there will be heartache, trials, and pain; but no matter how the road curves and bends, He will never leave my side.
