The party was moving along smoothly. They had eaten, opened presents and were now playing with the new toys. The ladies were having a cup of coffee and watching the kids. Amy started telling them about her great mystery of the missing food. They sat perched on their chairs, waiting for the details.
“You have our attention now.”
“Well, it started back on Thanksgiving. I made a sweet potato pie and had it on the counter. It disappeared. Then on Christmas, I had a chocolate pie sitting on the counter and it disappeared. I know it sounds crazy. But, the only evidence I ever found was the disposable aluminum pan under Matthew’s bed. Of course he claims it wasn’t him, but that Daisy did it.”
“Well, do you think he is lying?”
“I just can’t imagine her doing such a thing. But, I really don’t think Matthew would have taken the sweet potato pie. The chocolate one, I can see. Not too many eight year olds like sweet potatoes.”
The other ladies started giggling. “I think we found your culprit.” Amy looked over her shoulder and there she was. Her soft brown eyes looking up at her, head cocked with blue and pink icing around her mouth.
“Daisy!”
She slipped her small paws off the edge of the table and sat looking at me. She was caught red-handed, or should we say red-pawed. Oopsy Daisy got her name because, every time Amy made a mess, she was right there to clean it up. She must have decided to start helping herself, instead of waiting for hand-outs.
“Well, I guess I owe Matthew an apology.” Amy said, as she reached down to pet Daisy.
