Topic: Luggage (08/15/05)

TITLE: Baggage (iii)
By Dorothy Purge

It was fifteen minutes past the scheduled departure time of “Fruit of the Spirit” aircraft
which had flown from Galations in the New Testament to Chapter 5, its metropolitan hub. There, unfaithful and envious persons often tried to board the aircraft.

A favourite among passengers the aircraft carried on board exceptional luggage popularly known as Verse 22 which contained joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance and an abundance of charity.

At last came an announcement alerting all passengers on board:

“Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. I am Captain Cristo. Welcome on board Fruit of the Spirit. This afternoon we will be travelling to Fruitful Island at a cruising altitude of peace. Our estimated time of arrival at our destination will be determined entirely by faith.

We apologise for the delay in departure which is caused by a deportee who was trying to board the aircraft. He has subsequently been escorted from the security check point by armed men of temperance. His luggage, which unfortunately was sent on the aircraft is presently being removed. The luggage contains malice, prejudice, hatred, and a large amount of vandalism – all considered dangerous by our Civil Aviation Authorities.

By faith, we should be departing down the run-way in another ten minutes. Until then, please relax and look forward to enjoying your flight”.

As I gazed through my window I could not help but thinking of all the lovely gifts I had - especially in my cabin luggage. Then came another announcement from an angelic voice:

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Chief Stewardess Gabrielle. Other crew members are Captain Cristo and a host of shining stewardesses. Please direct your attention to the stewardess nearest to you who will acquaint you with our safety procedures.

We are pleased to provide you with a fruit-filled cabin. Throughout your flight you will be provided with joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance and an abundance of charity.

This cabin is equipped with guardian angels – several on the left and several on the right. Take time to recognize your guardian angel. Press on the faithful call button located on the inside of your arm rest and your guardian angel will visit. Listen carefully, as she often speaks gently and will illuminate in case there is a power failure.

Your seat belt, located on either side of your seat, contains a buckle and a lengthy strap. Please adjust the strap to long suffering. Keep your seat belt fastened as we may encounter unexpected turbulences of unfaithfulness, doubt ,or sadness.

This flight takes you over waters of strife. There is a small luggage section under your seat with your life jacket. In case of an emergency – do not panic. Remove the jacket and put it over your head. Pull on the straps and tighten them in front of you. Outside the aircraft, inflate the jacket by pulling on the straps or by blowing faith in the tubes located on either side. Exercise temperance as you handle the jacket.

To the rare of the aircraft is a special luggage compartment containing pillows of joy and dozens of blankets of love. Your carry-on luggage consisting only of love should be safely stored in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you. At this time continue to observe these safety regulations by reading the ‘Good Book’ in your pouch. ”

I was thrilled by Gabrielle’s gentle voice and admired her graceful demonstration.

An hour after enjoying a delicious cuisine of meekness, by faith, Fruit of the Spirit landed at its destination.

On collecting all my luggage I went to the Customs desk with the sign: “Items to be Declared”.

“Good night madam, are you bringing in any fruits”? greeted the Customs officer.
“Yes sir”, I said. “I have fruit of the spirit”.
“Are you carrying any ammunition”? He asked.
“Yes Sir”, I replied. “I have a very powerful weapon - my Bible”.
“May I see the contents of your luggage”? He asked

After inspecting my luggage the Officer inquired:

“Madam, what will you be doing with all these fruits”?

“These are gifts for the people,” I replied. “Hundreds of acres of fruits were destroyed during hurricane Greed. It is my joy to see the island fruitful again”.

“Carry on the good work”, said the Officer. “We at Fruitful Island welcome visitors who have travelled on the Fruit of the Spirit aircraft”.

A very creative entry, a couple minor typos, but very enjoyable.
