Creamy hot chocolate, dark chocolate and a dark brown dachshund are three of my favorite things. Hot chocolate tastes wonderful especially by a fire in the evening. Dark chocolate is good for the soul. For some reason, God made dark chocolate healing for more than just your body.

I wasn’t a “dog person.” I liked my life the way it was. Dogs have cold, wet noses and shed all over the house. They’re always at your feet and get mad at you when you step on them. And they smell!

But I found out there is nothing like a little dark brown dachshund. I took in a friend’s dog as a favor. He sits by the door, which means it’s “outside time.” When I say “Do you want to go outside?” he does “donuts” like a four-wheeler on the floor! He’s adorable! He has more energy in one donut than I have all day. We go outside and he sits in the sun. That’s all. He just wanted to sit outside and enjoy the autumn of Florida. I’m busy with too much to do and he makes me take an escape outside to breathe and rest a minute.

At night he’s my security. I sleep on my side and he snuggles in my back between my shoulder blades. It’s nice to have a little companion.

When he eats his food, he refuses to eat out of a bowl. He turns the bowl over and eats the dry food off the kitchen floor! A dog with idiosyncrasies is so cute! He shakes his head back and forth and he rather has the appearance of Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars! He makes me laugh.

And the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey… (Numbers 22:28a Amplified) The donkey spoke to Balaam a powerful message. This dog silently speaks to me. He says, “Care for something other than yourself. You have idiosyncrasies, be patient with mine.” I’m having to take time out of my day for him. It requires being unselfish for a few minutes, which I’m not used to. He’s precious to me, helping me to come out of thinking only of me and widening my world to include a little friend.

What a great lesson, and I enjoyed your descriptions of your little dog.
