Kerry, a nine year old liked to help her mom Lucy make a banner's for church. They worked on a banner that said "Jesus is the light of the world." The banner had cloth cut out of Jesus and there were yellow streaks that surrounded Jesus along with the words.

Kerry helped her mom glue the pieces on the banner.

"Mom."

"Yes Kerry."

"What are these yellow things?" asked Kerry.

"They are streaks,"said Mom.

With an inquisitive look on her face Kerry asked, "Why are there streaks surrounding Jesus?"

Lucy cut out some of the pieces as they talked, "I wanted to highlight Jesus."

Kerry got this puzzled look on her face, "Why do you want to highlight Jesus?

"Because Jesus is like a bright light and as the banner say's he is a light to our world," said Lucy.

Kerry put glue on the back of a letter, "Why, did you use the color yellow?"

Mom with a soft voice said, "The color yellow in the Bible means glory, divine and good those are what are called attributes?"

"What are at..tra... atr....butes?" asked Kerry.

"Those are words that describe Jesus."

"Cool."

"You know who Jesus is?" asked Mom.

Kerry was in thought and slow to answer, "He.....is...God's son."

"Correct. Do you know what Jesus did for us?" asked Lucy.

Kerry smiled and said quickly, "He died on the cross."

Mom sensed the need to explain more, "You know the reason he died is so that we can go to heaven."

"That is so cool Mommy."

Lucy held the banner up in the air, "I think that will do it. The banner looks so good, thank you Kerry for your help. Can you help me put things away?"

Next Sunday when Kerry saw the banner up on the wall in church she marveled at what she learned with her mom.

Cute story. I bet it would be perfect for a young person's Sunday School newsletter!

A good story for a Bible lesson--I agree!
